Since opening our doors to patients in 2017, MNSonography has been a leading Ultrasound Centre for patients in the Paarl area. We contribute to the early health of your baby by using the latest technology and our extensive knowledge of obstetric ultrasound techniques and fetal pathology to calculate your baby’s risk of having a chromosomal abnormality or fetal anomaly.

Melanie Nieuwoudt

A qualified ultrasonographer who started her training as a radiographer and completed her National Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography in 1999, her BTech in Diagnostic Radiography in 2002 and BTech in Ultrasound in 2006 all at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (Tygerberg Campus). She was one of only 3 students accepted to study Ultrasound at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town.

She worked at various State Clinics where she gained valued experience in obstetric ultrasound. Melanie opened her first practice in 2010 in Upington where she worked for 6 years. She then moved to Cape Town in December 2016 where she joined the private practice of

Dr L Pistorius, Panorama Perinatology where she further broadened her ultrasound skills and knowledge. In September 2017, she started her practice in Paarl and in May 2021 in Stellenbosch.

She is accredited for the 11–13-week scan, pre-eclampsia screening, Dopplers, and cervical assessment with the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF). She is a member of the International Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISUOG) and the South African Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (SASUOG).

Janell Rust

Janéll completed her National Diploma in Ultrasound in 2011 and BTech in Ultrasound in 2013 both at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (Groote Schuur Campus).

She worked at Khayelitsha District Hospital for three years where she gained valued experience in obstetric and general ultrasound, trained students and managed the ultrasound department. She was also part of an obstetric outreach service in the community clinics of Khayelitsha.

She worked in the United Kingdom for 6 years at the biggest NHS trust; Barts Health NHS doing obstetrics and general ultrasounds where she gained invaluable experience working with multi-disciplinary teams.

She is accredited for the 11-13 week scan, pre-eclampsia screening, and Dopplers assessment with the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF). She is a member of the International Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISUOG)  and the South African Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (SASUOG)

** After returning to South Africa she worked at various government hospitals and clinics providing general and obstetric ultrasounds in the Western Cape.
